  •    Aloha from Hawai'i! =)

  • I fill this out with regards to my senior year of high school.  The longer ago it was, the more fun the answers will be.  Or so I'm told.

    1. Who were your best friends?
T, Jus, Jik, Jo, Derk, Dez, Anx, Tina, Steph, Min.

    2.What sports did you play?
    Skateboarding isn't a sport to me. :p

    3. What kind of car did you drive?
Whatever deck had a nice shape, Independent trucks, and Spitfire wheels on Shorty's hardware, griptape, and black panther bearings.  eS shoes. sw33t rid3.

    4. It's Friday night, where were you?
Skating at I.T., aka "Immigration" or "Imm-park".

    5. Were you a party animal?
Not until the night of graduation

    6. Were you considered a flirt?
    I don't know.  Probably.

    7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
    N/A

    8. Were you a nerd?
No; I did terribly in school!

    9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Nothing more than detention.  I remember (almost) my whole homeroom had detention once for not wearing the school-issued navy blue pants.  LAME.

    10. Can you sing the fight song?
I can sing the CIS song... but it's hardly a "fight" song.  And no, I can't even sing 'SC's fight song.  Weep!

    11. Who was your favorite teacher?
Either Mrs. O'Connell or Mr. Tsang

    12. Favorite class?
Theory of Knowledge... because it was the last class on Friday afternoons!

    13. What was your school's full name?
    Chinese International School

    14. School mascot?
the moon gate?  I don't think we have one...

    15. Did you go to Prom?
    Y

    16. If you could go back and do it over, would you?
    Y

    17. What do you remember most about graduation?
Watching Jiksun cry while giving the head boy's speech... and including in it an anecdote that revolved around a conversation we'd recently had!

    19. Where were you on senior skip day?
WTF is a senior skip day?  I do know how to skip...

    20.  Did you have a job your senior year?
    Nope.  Rich & spoiled, baby...

    21. Where did you go most often for lunch?
Either Wun Ging ("cloud view" - a small cafe that served a mean charsiu rice) or "the caf."

    22. Have you gained weight since then?
    about 10 - 15 pounds.  I now weigh between 135 and 140.

    23. What did you do after graduation?
Got buzzed for the first time (thanks, Darrell, for the free drink at Ing...), traveled through western Europe, visited Guam and Saipan, then headed off to USC for school.  Which wasn't quite so cool, at least at the time.

    24. When did you graduate?
    2000

    25. Who was your senior prom date?
    Sharon?

    26. Are you going to your 10 year reunion?
    If we have one!

    27. Who was your home room teacher?
It's a California thing.  My homeroom teacher for senior year was... errr... Mrs. ... no... shoot, I don't remember!  Someone refresh my memory, please?

    28. Who will repost this after you?
Cat, Cofdotanx, C-mone and... and... whoever else reads this. Pam.  And others.  None of you comment anymore.  WEEP.

  • Once, when I was in 2nd grade ("P3" or "primary 3"), I snuk under our table during class and put a grape in my classmate's dangling shoe.
She was not amused when she stepped back into it.

In other news, I am meeting some great people in Shanghai.  This is thanks in much part to the extended networks of C-mone and Cat (via Myspace)!  Cheers. :)

  • Each player of this game starts off with ten weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself.
    People
who get tagged must write in a blog of their own ten weird things or
habits or little known facts as well as state this rule clearly.
At the end you must choose six people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks and no gibsees!

    1. I have no less than 6 email addresses, all of which I check on a regular basis.

    2. Despite having no relatives that display this trait, my legs are quite teh hairy.

    3. I have 3 cats.  2 male and one female.  I love the female the most. (Boots, if you're reading this, I <3 you.)

    4. I've never gotten drunk off my tits... though I did throw up once due to alcohol.

    5. I am a sucker for potato chips.  Especially Kettle Chips(r) brand.

    6. I had two cars during college: a "daily driver" and a "track bitch" - which I drove the hell out of in the hills and on the track.

    7. I totalled my US$3,000 "track bitch" twice in 2 years, then sold it for US$500 to a (real life) import model.

    8. I constantly develop/grow/sprout new moles/beauty spots.  It sucks.

    9. I have two ice cream cones in the freezer.

    10. Sometimes I want to throw my cat(s) out of the window, but manage to stop myself from doing so.

(how boring... I'm not even going to say anything besides what I copied, pasted and replaced above!!)

  • Family, friends and "mere" acquaintances:
    Happy 2007.
I hope this year turns out well in all aspects for you all.  I hope, also, to be in touch more than I was in 2006.  (Read: I'll try to post at least once a month in '07!)

  •

me: I still had soft stool from yesterday's Chili, so it was hard to hold in... just my luck, though, I walk into the 47/F bathroom, and both toilets are occupied!!  Thankfully, I thought to myself, one guy just flushed and was zipping up his pants.
Then, as he opened the door, the other guy in the sink-area who was washing his hands when I first came in, walked right over to the stall... he wasn't just finished peeing, as I'd thought, he was waiting for a stall!!
"Ahhh!!" I thought to myself.  "My shit's about to exproshion!!  What to do?!?"
So I walked briskly out the door, trying ever so hard not to let my stool spill out, and made my way to the elevators.
I jammed the "up" button and, to my luck, an elevator arrived immediately.  whew.  God loves me!

Sent at 9:57 AM on Thursday

me: So I went up to the 50/F to use their bathrooms; but as I pushed open the bathroom door, to my horror, I saw that both stalls were closed!  Upon closer inspection, I found that indeed, they were both occupied.  Sad, sad day for AD...
not knowing how long the two gentlemen would be, I jogged back out to the elevator lobby, and jammed, for the second time, the "up" button, and waited nervously with a lady who was going down.

me: Finally, the elelator came, and I shot up to the 52nd floor, and the third bathroom that I tried for this one use.  As I walked up to the door, I saw - in horror - a "closed for cleaning" sign hanging on the door handle, and an ayi standing around outside with a mop and bucket.  "NOOOOOOOOOO"
Luckily for me, one quick glance at the ayi with my terror-struck face, and she motioined for me to go on in. Thank you, THANK YOU.  She was too kind.

Sent at 10:01 AM on Thursday

me: Entering the bathroom, I found that there was actually someone else in there, which is why the Ayi was waiting outside.

Sent at 10:03 AM on Thursday

me: I excitedly approached the open stall and locked the door.  After wiping the seat down, I - with much anticipation - un-did my pants, and let the bottled-up beast roar its primal roar...
and the rest, as they say, is history...

  • Greetings!  Shanghai is fun.  By now you've all seen and commented on our photos over on Cat's site... so here are some that she doesn't have:

My primary mode of transportation here in Shanghai is no longer the
taxi, but the "Forever Shanghai" bicycle.  What a beauty!
Too bad it doesn't ride as well as Cat's modern "Battle Girl" ("Battle"
is the brand, "Girl" is the model... ha ha) bike. :p  |  A
dragonfly perches on the tip of a car antenna.

Shanghainese love their tattoos... here's a good one.  This guy
looked so badass what with the gold chain and shaved head... eating his
    noodles and reading the paper.

...and this one... she was just so hip and cool and... badass.  At least the tattoo's unique!

My first motorbike ride ever was given to me by an old Shanghainese man
who was nearing 60... used to live in Xin Tian Di - his plot was right
on the lake, before the government relocated him when XTD was being
    built.  Pity!

And of course, I have to post pics of Boots - the newest addition to
our household.  She's got personality that rivals the other Cat in
    this house! ;)

  • <addit>
    1am, August 8, 2006.
2nd interview in 10 hours... eep!
(I think I'm quite smart for - as far as I know - coining that term... "addit."  Anyway.)
Just logged on to the Discovery Travel and Living forums that were
seeking applicants for season 3 of "5 Takes", only to find that a lot
of people had already received call-backs well before the deadline of
July 31, and that their 2nd round blog and vlog deadlines were set at
July 31 as well.  Given this information, it seems fair to
conclude that my submission, dated July 30th, did not make 2nd
    round.  Weep.
Ahh well, on with the job search, then...

PS -  Thanks, Cat, for the awesome haircut. B)  I think I look rockin'!!
    </addit>

It's been quite a while since I last updated, yet I still see a few
footprints once in a while.  For those of you who bother, sorry!
Anyway, Cat and I have been in 上海 for a full 2 weeks now, and things
have been, on the whole, pretty good.  My job search is moving
along (even if I may end up doing something I probably won't enjoy) and
the apartment search has gone very well.  Now, all I need to do is
actually start work, move into the apartment w/ Cat, adopt a (cat-)
cat, and then I'll be set for the next year or two!

So, without further ado, here are a very few photos.

After a 24 1/2 hour train ride, Cat and I enter the country!  The
immigration process was smooth, and the only problems I'd say we
encountered were 1) almost missing the train from HK (we were the last
ones on!!), and 2) Cat almost getting stranded on the train after we
arrived in SH (they usher everyone off really, really fast!!).
Not bad considering the number of things that could have gone wrong in
24 hours. (Just ask Jack Bauer and his team!  ...Is that even his
name?)  |  The longer I'm in Shanghai, the more mainland
chinese I become... clipping my nails as we walk from one apartment
    viewing to the subway station.

    Who
other than Jo, with his girlfriend, Serena.  Thanks you two, for
being so helpful and such great chums in our first weeks in SH!!
We really appreciate it. :)   |  This one is a little small
and blurry, but you might just make me and Cat out among the 1930's
local Shanghainese, me sipping a starbucks and Cat waving hi, as we
line up to get on the trolley/tram.  These things are reminiscent
of modern day HK trams.  Hmmm...

Cat and I are the raison d'etre for these nutrition bars.   w3rd.

  • Hawai'i and NY photos for your enjoyment!  (Or perhaps, for my own enjoyment?)

The rainbow state welcomes AD with nothing less than... a
rainbow!  On the way back from seeing the "sunrise". :p
    |  Cat presents her lovely city of Honolulu (and Diamond Head!) to
me.  Or wait... is she dancing Hula?  x)

I look absolutely re-tarded in this one, but I'm taking one for the
team... Cat looked even worse in the first take of this photo. x)
    |  We feed each other dessert sorbets!) at the Big City Diner...
    GIVE ME MY LOCO MOCO!!

Cat: "Maybe if I just stretch stretch stretch, I'll grow as tall as these trees!"
AD: "Maybe if I keep up with these un-funny (but desperately trying ot
be funny) captions, I'll actually I'll actually grow a sense of humor!"
    In unison: "Shut up, AD!"
Le Catmobile, aka "CAT-TOO", aka Custom Bug, aka our pimp-as ride!

Cat and AD go to New York...

    "whaaat?" ...

Thassright, we've got a siamese connection!  |  Adios, Mao
Ze-Cat!  See you in 2 weeks! (And now, see you in 3 1/2
days!  OMGoodness!! Hong Kong Shanghai Eastern China Seaboard...
    here we come!  Cowabunga!)

  • The past month in 4 photos and 6 lines of text:

San Francisco and Palo Alto for the Committee of 100's 15th Annual conference. (My dog, "white shark.")

Los Angeles post-conference for some much needed R&R (Cat @ the Inn of the 7th Ray.)

(Back to NY for a short 1-week stint)

Back to LA for Adley's graduation and more... (Breakfast at Doughboys!)

Here in Honolulu soaking up the great Hawaiian ("Beijing") sun with a
truly fawesome character! :D (Waiola Shave Ice. DA EXPRODE!!)

My life rocks!  Off to Shanghai in just a few short weeks... EEKS!!!!!
